NFL Executive Admits Football Linked To Brain Damage

For the first time since the controversial topic of degenerative brain disease linked to professional football has been in the public consciousness, an NFL executive has come forward, admitting that a connection between the medical condition and the game does exist, according to multiple media outlets.

Jeff Miller, the league's executive vice president for health and safety, was testifying before the House Committee on Energy & Commerce on Monday when he discussed the connection between brain disease and the NFL while answering a question from Dr. Ann McKee, a Boston University neuropathologist, according to NPR.org.

McKee had previously studied the phenomenon, detecting signs of traumatic brain injury in 90 out of 94 former professional football players and 45 out of 55 former college players, NPR reported.

Though admitting that McKee's research was strong evidence for a connection between NFL play and brain injury, he said there are several factors that "come with that," according to NPR.
