Monroe College to Fight Hunger on Senior Day

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Monroe Mustangs will team with the Monroe Students in Free Enterprise to turn Sunday’s basketball doubleheader against the Dean Bulldogs into “SIFE Let’s Can Hunger Day.”

Every fan who brings at least one can of non-perishable food to the games at the Monroe Athletic Complex will receive free admission.

"This is one of the many SIFE projects that helps the community at large," said SIFE President Brandon Evans.  "Our members are dedicated to community service and over the years we've taken the fight against hunger seriously."

Monroe’s SIFE team, which creates projects to better the community, finished first in the Let’s Can Hunger Challenge in the spring of 2011.

"We'd certainly like to repeat the honor and collect even more food for the hungry this year," Evans said.

Monroe’s SIFE team won its eighth consecutive regional competition in 2011 and advanced to the SIFE USA National Exposition in Minneapolis. The team finished in the top 20 at the event.

In 2005, the team was a National SIFE Champion and was pictured on boxes of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes.

Sunday is also Senior Day for the Mustangs. The seniors on both the men’s and women’s teams will be honored before the games and WNBA legend Kym Hampton will sing the national anthem before each contest.
