Monroe Basketball Hits Wfas Radio Air Waves

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Monroe College basketball fans will be able to hear men’s and women’s games on AM 1230 WFAS radio through the rest of the 2011-12 season, it was announced Thursday by the New Rochelle college.

Announcers Mike McGinnis and Bob Galerstein will split the play-by- play duties for the games with color commentating supplied by Gary Axelbank, Monroe's Director of Sports Development and Information. The games will also be available on www.wfasam.com sponsored by Modell’s and Retro Fitness.

"We're thrilled to be having our games on WFAS," Axelbank said. "With our three national championships and 12 national tournament appearances over the last nine years, we have hands down the most successful college basketball program in the New York metro area, and while fans have loved the low admission price in our gorgeous new arena, the broadcasts give everyone a chance to enjoy all the action wherever they are."

As part of the WFAS coverage, "The Breakfast Show" with Bob Barnum broadcast on Wednesday mornings will feature a segment on Monroe basketball to update fans on the teams and preview upcoming games.The next broadcast will be a men's and women's doubleheader between Monroe and the Globe Institute of Technology on Monday evening, Jan. 30. The 13th-ranked and defending NJCAA Division II National Champion Lady Mustangs women will play at 5 p.m. followed by the fifth-ranked Mustangs men’s team that finished third in the NJCAA Division I in 2011, at 7 p.m.AM 1230 WFAS is known as Westchester's Legacy Radio Station having served as the county's "town square" since 1932.   An easy link to the Mustangs broadcasts is on the Monroe athletics home page at www.monroecollegemustangs.com.
