ARMONK, N.Y. -- Following a big win over Ossining earlier in the week, Croton wrestling coach Sam Occhipinti instructed his team to maintain its focus and intensity for the next match.The Tigers heeded their coachs advice and defeated host Byram Hills, 46-31, Thursday.It was Crotons 16th win of the season and the Tigers improved to 2-0 in the league. Dan Guido (126 pounds), J.P. OMalley (138) and John Martin (152) registered pins for the Tigers. OMalley and Martin had first-period pins. Guidos finish gave Croton the lead for good.Frederich, OMalley, Martin and Chris Kraft (220) are part of a senior class that were recruited into wrestling by their classmate and good friend, David Occhipinti. This core group of seniors has been instrumental in Crotons resurgence the last few years.This is a solid core of kids who have come together through the program, Sam Occhipinti said. They were all friends with David and he got them started.Crotons strength has been its lightweights through middleweights. Kraft has been Crotons anchor in the upperweights. When he steps on the mat, Croton knows a win is in hand.Byram Hills received a pin from John Errico (99) and Brandon Lynn (145) had a hard-fought 1-0 win over Andrew Horan.
