Four New Rochelle Wrestlers Receive No. 1 Seeds

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- Aaron Butler (170 pounds), Tyler Lilly (220), Justin Douglas (285) and Nick Barbaria (99) are all seeded first in their respective weight classes in a Large School Section 1 Wrestling Championship Qualifier Saturday at Horace Greeley.

The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the Section 1 Large School Wrestling Championships/State Qualifier Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11 and 12. Clarkstown South will host the first day of sectionals. The Goldstein Center on the campus of Pace University is the site for Sundays finals.

The nine-team field includes Beacon, Eastchester, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, North Rockland, Ossining, Scarsdale, Yonkers and the host. Wrestling will start at 9 a.m. and the championship and consolation finals scheduled for 4 p.m.

North Rockland leads the field with six No. 1 seeds. After North Rockland and New Rochelle is Scarsdale with 2011 Section 1 171-pound champion Jacob Berkowitz (182), John Tambunting (132) and Joe Koshakow (138) the top seeds.

The two possible finals of interest are in the 170- and 113-pound weight classes. Butler, the 2011 Section 1 160-pound titlist, is on course to meet Scarsdales Jack Braun, the second seed. North Rocklands Troy Feniger, the top seed at 113 pounds, will meet second-seeded Alex De la Cruz of Ossining if the seeds hold true. Last year, De la Cruz defeated Feniger in the Section 1 103-pound third-place match.
