Former Section 1 Mr. Basketball Sparks Iona Victory

SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. – Spring Valley's Rickey McGill, named Section 1's Mr. Basketball last season, helped give Iona College a spark off the bench in their 78-68 road victory over Quinnipiac on Saturday in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.

The Iona freshman entered the game with 17:50 left and contributed a career-high 11 points as the Gaels outscored the Bobcats by 12 in McGill's 15 minutes of playing time. He hit 4 of 5 shots, including three 3-pointers.

Iona evened their record at 6-6 and boosted their conference record to 3-0.

The Section 1 Mr. Basketball award is given to the best varsity player in Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and Dutchess counties every season.
