County Center Cools Steamy Summer With 'Open Gym'

Talk about a great place for pickup basketball.

The Westchester County Center in White Plains, site of the annual Section 1 high school basketball tournament as well as the Westchester County Recreation Basketball Tournament, is being opened to teens for “Open Gym Nights” beginning July 5.

Teens can beat the summer heat and spend time with friends or meet new ones, work on athletic skills and stay physically active, all in air-conditioned comfort in the top basketball venue in the County. The Center has also hosted the world famous Harlem Globetrotters.

Teens in grades six through 12 can shoot hoops, play chess, cards or other board games. Or they can compete in traditional recreational activities including  foosball, Noc hockey and ping pong. Participants will be supervised by adult staff members of the County Parks Department. Admission and parking at the County Center lot are free for these events.

Open Gym will run Mondays through Fridays, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., from Tuesday, July 5, through Friday, July 29.

The Open Gym program is sponsored by Westchester County Parks Department.

The Westchester County Center is located at 198 Central Park Avenue in White Plains. It is accessible on Bee Line bus routes from all parts of the County.
