Boys Basketball Class A and B Quarterfinal Results

The Section 1 playoffs continued with Class A and Class B quarterfinals on Wednesday after some thrilling Class AA and Class C games on Tuesday.

In Class A, No. 3 Eastchester lost a heartbreaker to No. 11 Poughkeepsie, 61-58, after Ray Knight hit a three-pointer with 2.1 seconds left and the game tied at 58. Eastchester’s Dave Solano had hit a three of his own with 8.2 seconds to go to tie the game. He finished with 20 points while Jack Daly had 25.

No. 5 Byram Hills travelled to No. 4 Kennedy and earned a 55-50 win. Jeff Lynch, who has battled a foot injury all season, had 11 points and four assists. The Bobcats will now face top-seeded and undefeated Tappan Zee at the Westchester County Center on Wednesday. Tappan Zee defeated Pearl River, 54-39, on Wednesday.

Chandler Pierce scored 30 points for No. 2 Peekskill, which beat No. 10 Brewster, 80-73. The Red Devils will face Poughkeepsie on Wednesday at the County Center.

In Class B, No. 5 Blind Brook defeated No. 4 Pleasantville, 43-42, after Sam Adler hit two free throws with 1.5 seconds to go. Blind Brook coach Mike Welsh faced his younger brother Chris Welsh, the coach of Pleasantville, in the game.

No. 6 Croton-Harmon upset No. 3 Woodlands, 56-55, after Wes Turner converted a three-point play with 20 seconds remaining to put the Tigers up by two. Woodlands’ Justin Smith hit one free throw to trim the lead to one with four seconds left but the Tigers held off the Falcons and earned their first trip to the County Center since 2008.

No. 2 Albertus Magnus beat No.7 Briarcliff, 69-51, and held the Bears’ leading scorer, Brian Daniels, to just four points. Top-seeded Dobbs Ferry routed No. 8 Valhalla, 67-32.

Class A Semifinals: No. 2 Peekskill vs. No. 11 Poughkeepsie, 6:30 p.m. No. 1 Tappan Zee vs. No. 5 Byram Hills, 8:15 p.m.

Class B Semifinals: No. 2 Albertus Magnus vs. No. 6 Croton-Harmon, 3 p.m. No. 1 Dobbs Ferry vs. No. 5 Blind Brook, 4:45 p.m.
