ARMONK, N.Y. Swimmers from the North Castle Pool & Tennis Club descended on the pool Tuesday at Playland Amusement Park in Rye for the 87th annual Westchester County Swimming Association Counties Championships.
Club teams from throughout the county gathered for the four-day event, which runs from Monday to Thursday.
Jonathan Hulbert has coached swimming for eight years but made his first trip to the county championships this week. So far, he has enjoyed the experience.
Its always a pretty well-run meet, Hulbert said. Its good fun for the kids.
Hulbert, like many other coaches at the meet, said the event is a chance for his swimmers to have fun.
Its a lot of the winter swimmers that end up coming, Hulbert said. So they know pretty much all the kids that are here. Its still a fun meet. Its outdoors. Its good stuff.
The North Castle Pool & Tennis Club sent 10 swimmers to the county championships, including 16-year-old Charles McAuley, who swam in the 100-yard breaststroke. He has been with North Castle since he was 5 years old and has been to the county championships numerous times.
McAuley is a year-round swimmer, and the summer event lets him reconnect with old friends.
I get to see all of my friends from the winter swim teams, McAuley said. Its a blast.
