Armonk Bobcats Basketball Heads for Winter Season

ARMONK, N.Y. – A quick look at the calendar and the echo of basketball on gym floors means recreation basketball season is ready to begin for the Armonk Junior Bobcats youth basketball teams.

“We have tried to build a good program in Armonk that teaches the boys and girls the skills they need to compete anywhere,” Bobcats Coordinator Jeff Lynch said. “The Bobcats program has grown over the last six years. There’s a lot of satisfaction in seeing young people learn the game and develop confidence.”

The Junior Bobcats began as a single boys team in 2004 and competed in various leagues throughout Westchester, Putnam and the Bronx through 2007. The Junior Bobcats Basketball Program had its inaugural season in 2008-2009, fielding eight boys teams and four girls teams from fourth through eighth grade. The teams play in in the Tri-County Basketball League (TCBL) against similar programs in Mt. Vernon, New Rochelle, Scarsdale, Chappaqua and White Plains.

Lynch attributed much of the program’s success to Bobcats Program Director Carlo Di Cristofaro and Director of Coaching and Player Development Marshall Reiff, and coaches Joe Consenza, Kevin Cook, Paul Celentano, Marty Durkin, Joe Huguenot, Kevin DeBold, Kerri Buonassisi, girls varsity staff coach Jeanne Marie Vinchiarello and boys Varsity Staff coach Dave Mack.

“Our teams have excelled in all competition with teams from larger communities,” Lynch said. “We have a great group of coaches throughout the program.”

Reiff, a 10-time NYS Section 1 Coach of the Year and coach of the Mount Vernon High School girls and boys championships teams in the 1980s and early 1990s, has been working with the Bobcats for the past five years. Reiff runs practices and training for the players and trains and manages the coaching staff.
