Westchester And Rockland's LIU Working Together

Long Island University President David J. Steinberg cut the ribbons at the Hudson Graduate Center at Westchester and at the Hudson Graduate Center at Rockland on Sept. 7 to celebrate the merger of the two campuses. Renamed Long Island University’s (LIU) Hudson Graduate Centers at Rockland and Westchester, the Centers will be able to offer students increased access to educational opportunities, facilities and services on both sides of the Hudson River.

Speaking to some 50 in attendance at the Westchester event, Dr. Steinberg quoted the great poet John Masefield, “There are few earthly things more beautiful than a university a place where those who hate ignorance may strive to know, where those who perceive truth may strive to make others see.”

“In combining the resources of the two campuses, the sum is greater than its parts,” says Dr. Sylvia Blake, dean and chief operating officer of the Hudson Graduate Centers.

Students have more than 70 academic programs from which to choose between the two campuses. Most of the programs are offered in both counties, but some are exclusive at one campus or the other. By combining the campuses’ resources, Long Island University can now offer increased scholarship funding, an expanded network, including alumni and faculty members; and a broader array of internships and teaching placements. The facilities at both campuses will be available to all students, including computer labs.

According to Cindy Pagnotta, Director of Marketing, all of these benefits will enhance the personalized attention that has become a tradition at the LIU’s Hudson Graduate Centers at Westchester and Rockland.
