Storyteller Appears at Valhalla Elementary School

VALHALLA, N.Y. – As part of its Parents are Reading Partners program, Kensico School invited Bill Harley, a Grammy-winning artist and author, to perform in front of students Thursday afternoon.

Harley is a storyteller who combines music with storytelling as he plays the guitar.

“Bill Harley is a renowned story teller who has performed at the national festival in Tennessee and he’ll appear at a Connecticut program Friday night,” said Bill Wright, the third grade teacher at Kensico who arranged the program. “He’s incredibly supportive and makes it happen for the kids.”

Students filled the gym and sat on the floor as Harley entertained them with songs and stories, singing “Grownups are Strange” that elicited lots of laughter.

Wright said Harley’s program reinforces the goals of the Parents are Reading partners program, which “have to do with reading and literacy, so this is a combination of an author visit and storytelling performance kids will enjoy and learn from.”
