The award recognizes a District II member institution head, president, chancellor or system head, or other campus CEO for outstanding efforts in promoting the understanding and support of education. CASE District II is a regional organization of advancement professionals in the areas of alumni relations, communications, and philanthropy. District II includes universities from Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ontario, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

"Under his leadership Pace has expanded its historic commitment to provide students from all economic backgrounds with a liberal arts education and career preparation."
Nominees are required to demonstrate the ability to create vision and inspire others; establish a positive image of his or her institution's stature in the community; and encourage innovations and risk-taking among employees. The nominee also must be an active participant in significant advancement efforts.
