Participants will take part in a technology version of 'March Madness', held on the basketball court of the County Center. Students from nearly 40 high schools and colleges in the region will kick off the second annual #WestchesterSmart Mobile App Development Bowl with a pep rally and marching band.

Sponsored by Westchester County and Pace University’s Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems, the competition calls for student teams to put themselves on the 'MAAP' by creating Mobile Apps for Aging Populations designed to improve an aspect of daily life for people ages 65 and older.

Friday's kickoff event officially starts a two month competition where students compete for cash prizes and paid internships. In the spring, a panel of expert judges will score and determine the top mobile apps. Winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded during an event at Pace University’s Pleasantville Campus.

In addition to the student competitors, Deputy Westchester County Executive, Kevin Plunkett and Interim Dean of Pace's Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems, Dr. Jonathan Hill will be in attendance to mark the start of the competition.

The development bowl kickoff will be held on Friday, Feb. 26 at 12:45 p.m. at the Westchester County Center at 198 Central Ave. in White Plains
