Byram Hills Students Ace National Spanish Exams

ARMONK, N.Y. – A group of foreign language students at Byram Hills High School recently earned national recognition for excellent performance on the 2013 National Spanish Examinations.

A group of Byram Hills foreign language students earned a total of three gold, five silver and 11 bronze medals in addition to eight honorable mentions in national exams.

The students—who are all in Level 4 Spanish—earned a total of three gold, five silver and 11 bronze medals in addition to eight honorable mentions.

“The results are indicative of the hard work that our students put forth to reach high levels of fluency and proficiency in a second language,” said Melissa Stahl, World Languages chairperson at Byram Hills.

Here is the award and recognition breakdown (all students are Juniors except for Ava Kingsley, who is a senior):

Bradley Fallick, Ava Kingsley and Maxwell Levy won gold awards.
Sydney Brooks, Kacy Fishman, Elizabeth Klein, Kathleen Ryan and Brian Zimmerman received silver medals.
Alannah Connolly, Olivia Dumont, Ali Gropper, Andrei Isichenko, Grabrielle Levy, Kaitlin Riggs, Hal Schwimmer, Samantha Steiner, Amanda Tantleff and Nicholas Cioffoletti won bronze medals.

The National Spanish Examinations, sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, are the largest of their kind in the United States, with more than 156,000 students participating this year.

“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, director of the exams.
