ZipRealty's ranking of "Best Places for Families to Live" compares the availability of highly ranked schools and the affordability of local real estate.
At sixth-place, Westchester beat out Dallas, Seattle, Boston and Orange County, Calif. The top-ranked place was the Minneapolis area.
The report ranks housing in terms of median price per square foot of housing, and Westchester came in at $250, considerably below the 10th best place to live - Orange County's $328 - but also much higher Minneapolis' $112 per square foot.
Briarcliff schools were listed as a "standout district" by the report, giving them a 9.9 out of a possible 10 points. The schools ratings are based on test score data and student/teacher ratios.
