Jaffee Sells Across the Spectrum

Cynthia Jaffee never gets tired of matching people with the right house. She tackles the job with passion, a task made easier by the fact that she knows the real estate market in Bedford, Pound Ridge, South Salem and Lewisboro like the back of her hand, having lived in the area for more than 40 years.

Jaffee, a licensed real estate broker with Houlihan Lawrence, sells houses in all price ranges and puts the same effort into marketing a small cape as she does in presenting an enormous mansion.

Two of her current listings are at opposite ends of the price spectrum. At the high end, Jaffee is selling 320-322 McLain Street in Bedford Hills, a solid stone, slate-roofed, seven-bedroom home built around 1900. "It looks like Downton Abbey on the inside," Jaffee says referring to the popular British television show recently broadcast on Public Television. In addition to ornately carved woodwork, the interiors feature plaster walls, herringbone floors and six grandiose fireplaces. The grand-scale house with its classic Georgian façade has more than four-and-a-half acres of property as well as a salt pool, guest cottage, barn - and garage space for 11 cars. "It was originally built by a successful financier as his weekend home," she says. Asking price $5.955 million.

63 Lower Shad Road in Pound Ridge is at the other end of the price spectrum (asking price is $499,000). Jaffee calls this home a "magical retreat." "It's a very cute semi-rustic built in the 40s with a fabulous stone fireplace in the vaulted living room." Stone terraces reach out to the woodlands from two sides of the house and there are outdoor views onto the two-acre property from all the lead-paned windows. Jaffee likes the bedroom layout in this home. The first floor bedrooms share a bathroom  and the master suite is upstairs with a private balcony at the top of the staircase.
