It was not meant to be for Chappaqua's Hillary Clinton.
Clinton was defeated in the presidential election by Donald Trump Tuesday, despite winning her home county 64 percent to 32 percent.
Trump has property in Bedford and a golf club in Briarcliff.
Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, a Democrat who represents part of Northern Westchester and who won re-election Tuesday, said that a lot of people wanted to see change.
"I understand that," Maloney said. "A lot of people want the economy to work better. They are frustrated with the political class. I think it's important to listen to that and work together."
Maloney said that Democrats need to do a better job of listening to the frustration of the American people.
"We need to better understand why people are so concerned about the decisions being made in Washington," Maloney said.
Maloney said it's important to treat everyone with respect, regardless of how they feel today.
"We can move forward and get things done," Maloney said. "The only way things work is when we work together."
Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-Harrison), who ran unopposed, congratulated Trump on his win.
“I hope he will work in good faith with Democrats to find bipartisan solutions to the great challenges our country faces," Lowey said. "We must come together to protect Americans at home and abroad and to make our economy work for everyone."
Lowey said she was proud of Clinton's historic campaign and said she was an inspiration to girls and boys.
State Sen. Terrence Murphy (R-Yorktown) who won re-election Tuesday night, said Americans witnessed history. In April, Murphy met Trump at a rally in Albany.
"The American people spoke and the result was a victory for Donald Trump," Murphy said. We must respect the process and unite behind him. I wish him, his family and the Clinton family well after a hard fought campaign."
Trump, who owns an estate in Bedford, also owns Trump National Golf Club Hudson Valley in Stormville and Trump National Westchester in Briarcliff Manor. The Trump name also adorns Trump Tower At City Center in White Plains, Trump Plaza in New Rochelle, Trump Park Residences in Yorktown and the Donald J. Trump State Park on the Westchester/Putnam border.
