On Tuesday, Trump tweeted, "Lightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a total flunky for Chuck Schumer and someone who would come to my office “begging” for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them), is now in the ring fighting against Trump. Very disloyal to Bill & Crooked-USED!"
Gillibrand called for Trump to resign Monday as a result of more than a dozen woman accusing Trump of sexual misconduct and harassment. Gillibrand previously called for Sen. Al Franken to resign after he was accused of groping women. Gillibrand has also said former President Bill Clinton should have resigned over his affair with a White House intern.
"You cannot silence me or the millions of women who have gotten off the sidelines to speak out about the unfitness and shame you have brought to the Oval Office," Gillibrand responded on Twitter.
Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-Harrison) said Trump's tweet was "vile" and "sexually suggestive."
"The implication of the president’s words was clear and utterly repugnant," Lowey said. "His behavior deserves sharp condemnation.”
Rep. John Faso (R-Kinderhook) declined to comment.
