Fellow New Yorkers Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton maintained their frontrunner statuses for their respective parties by picking up decisive victories as results start to come in from Super Tuesday, in which voters from 12 states and one territory went to the polls in the biggest day of the presidential primaries.

Republican favorite Trump, the real estate mogul and reality TV star who owns an estate in Bedford and golf clubs in Hopewell Junction and Briarcliff, has been projected to win Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Massachusetts and Virginia. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio waged a strong challenge to Trump in Virginia.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, holding a near double-digit lead over Trump in Cruz's home state (with approximately 35 percent of precincts reporting), is the projected winner of the Lone Star State's primary. Cruz also holds a narrow lead over Trump in Oklahoma.

Democratic frontrunner Clinton, the former secretary of state, U.S. senator from New York and first lady, has been projected to win Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas and Alabama.

"What a Super Tuesday," Clinton, who has lived in Chappaqua since 1999, told supporters. "All across our country Democrats voted to break down barriers so we can all rise together."

Clinton's challenger, Sen. Bernie Sanders, is the projected winner in his homestate of Vermont.

A total of 865 Democratic delegates and 661 Republican delegates will be allocated from Tuesday's voting.

Ten states held contests for both Republicans and Democrats: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont and Virginia. Alaska held Republican caucuses and Colorado held Democratic caucuses. Democrats in American Samoa also voted Tuesday.
