Nearly two-thirds are also unaware of the federal investigation into the disbanding of the commission by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, according to a recent Siena College poll.
Despite the political turmoil surrounding the Moreland Commission, Cuomo's lead over Rob Astorino dropped only five points, down to 32, the poll said.
When asked about the Moreland Commission, 67 percent of respondents said they were completely unfamiliar with the work of the commission.
The lack of awareness about the Moreland Commission is clearly hurting Astorino. Among the 32 percent who are familiar with the commission, Cuomo leads 49-41 percent. The Democratic governor holds a much more commanding lead among the 67 percent who are unfamiliar with the commission, beating Astorino 62-19 percent, according to Siena College.
