Poll Shows Cuomo Maintaining Big Lead Despite Worries Over Moreland Scandal

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- New York State voters don't approve of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's alleged actions regarding the Moreland Commission on ethics, but the Democratic incumbent still maintains a comfortable lead over Republican challenger Rob Astorino, according to the most recent Marist College Poll.

Cuomo still maintains 54 percent of registered voters statewide, including those who are undecided but leaning toward a candidate versus just 23 percent for Astorino.

The gap between the governor and Westchester's County executive did close in the last month, but only by a small margin. Cuomo lead Astorino 59-24 percent in July's poll.

One of Astorino's biggest hurdles is simply getting his name out there. More than half of registered voters that participated in the poll did not offer an opinion on Astorino.

A three-month investigation by The New York Times has revealed aides to Cuomo and his camp compromised the efforts of the Moreland Commission, the very group created by Cuomo to root out government corruption.
