The Siena Research Institute, based in Loudonville, also found that nearly half of all New Yorkers – including two-thirds of Democrats -- it polled think Clinton will be the next president.
Meanwhile, nearly three-quarters of those polled still think jobs, the economy, and national security are the top three issues for all presidential candidates.
Clinton, a former U.S. secretary of state and U.S. senator from New York, leads Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont, 55-34 in a head-to-head matchup with New Yorkers.
On the Republican side, the poll found, billionaire real-estate mogul Trump has the support of 34 percent of New York Republicans, while Rubio, a U.S. senator from Florida, and Cruz, a U.S. senator from Texas, each have the support of 16 percent. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is the only other Republican in double digits with 11 percent support, the poll said.
When put up against GOP numbers, Clinton leads six leading Republican candidates by between 17 and 26 points, while Sanders runs up even bigger leads of between 22 and 33 points, the poll found.
Siena pollster Steven Greenberg noted that New York is highly likely to remain a blue (Democratic) state in the general election.
It hasn’t gone Republican in the presidential race since Ronald Reagan won in 1984, Greenburg said, and isn’t likely to break that streak this year.
