Just one day before Saturday's John Kasich Town Hall at Iona College, Maisano received a call from the campaign asking him to introduce Kasich. Maisano said he has been supporting Kasich since the first Republican presidential debate in August.
"John Kasich is the most qualified candidate for president," Maisano said. "I am thrilled to be here supporting him. I couldn't be more excited. My family is also very excited."
Maisano said Kasich's track record in the House of Representatives and as Governor of Ohio as someone who is willing to work across the aisle, is another reason he's supporting him. Maisano also highlighted Kasich's record on the Armed Forced Services Committee, saying he helped to rebuild America's military following Vietnam.
Former Congressman Joseph DioGuardi, an Ossining resident, who served with Kasich in the House, was also on hand to lend his support. DioGuardi said he supported Kasich's call to reduce America's national debt.
"Nobody knows how to count in Washington," DioGuardi said. "We are trillions of dollars in debt. Where is this money going to come from? Gov. Kasich is the only one who can tackle this."
Joe Carvin, a former Rye Town Supervisor who ran unsuccessfully for Congress, said Kasich is the only candidate who can defeat Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton in a general election.
"John Kasich is the savior of the Republican Party and the United States," Carvin said. "Neither Donald Trump nor Ted Cruz have a chance in heck. You have to be willing to govern and reach out. This is not a fiefdom."
