Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, saw his favorability ratings hit its highest level in almost three years, according to a Siena College poll. Cuomo has a 61-31 percent favorability rating, up from 54-36 percent last month.
The poll also found 53 percent of voters would re-elect him to a third term, while 36 percent would prefer someone else. Cuomo is up for re-election next year.
While voters like the governor, they don't seem to like his performance on specific issues. On eight specific issues, he was given a positive review on only two- higher education and human rights. Voters panned his handling on taxes, infrastructure, K-12 education, criminal justice and the economy.
Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino and Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro are considering challenging the governor next year on the Republican ticket.
