A former high school football standout from Westchester is a central figure in a new lawsuit being brought against President Donald Trump.

The lawsuit alleges Ed Butowsky, a graduate of Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, paid Rod Wheeler, an ex-detective and Fox News commentator, to investigate the death of Seth Rich, a Democratic National Committee staffer who was slain last year.

Wheeler said he was misquoted in a Fox News story as the lone source supporting the controversial report that was quickly retracted and pulled from Fox News' website.

The lawsuit was obtained and first reported by NPR.

Butowsky, a Trump supporter, is an internationally recognized expert in wealth management and a frequent guest on Fox and other television networks.

The NPR report says that Wheeler and Butowsky met at the White House on April 20 with then-press secretary Sean Spicer to discuss the story.

A voicemail and text from Butowsky stated that Trump himself had reviewed drafts of the Fox News story, the lawsuit alleges.

Douglas Wigdor, Wheeler's lawyer says he "was used as a pawn by Ed Butowsky, Fox News and the Trump administration to try and steer away the attention that was being given about the Russian hacking of the DNC emails.

Conspiracy theories surrounding Rich circulated after WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange suggested that Rich's death may have been related to the leaks of thousands of emails from Democratic Party officials.
