POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump warned the crowd in Poughkeepsie Sunday before he was going to tell them what has happened to the New York economy.

"You're gonna go home crying," Trump said.

Trump held a rally at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center, filling up to the place to the point that people watched the rally at a nearby ice rink. He said it was the biggest political event in the history of Dutchess County. Trump's rally was held ahead of Tuesday's New York primary.

Trump told the audience about New York's shrinking manufacturing jobs and saying he could bring them back.

"We've had incompetent leaders," Trump said. "Manufacturing jobs in this region have declined by 58 percent."

The business mogul blamed the North American Free Trade Agreement for the decline in jobs, taking a shot at Gov. John Kasich for supporting it. Trump also said Kasich and Ted Cruz support the Trans Pacific Partnership, another trade bill.

"It will wipe out jobs in New York," Trump warned. "Anyone who supports TPP- vote them out."

The frontrunner said New York has seen a 16 percent decline in construction jobs and is seeing jobs shipped overseas.

"I'm going to bring the workforce back," Trump said. "Poughkeepsie's workforce has shrunk by 20,000 jobs. New York has lost 3 out of 4 manufacturing jobs since the 1960s. We've gone the wrong way."

Trump said New Yorkers were being led down the drain by people that don't have the country's best interest at heart.

"It's a total and complete disaster," Trump said. "We're in very bad shape. Illegal immigration costs taxpayers here $5 billion a year.

Trump also bashed Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton, calling her Crooked Hillary.

"We can't let her win," Trump said. "We're going to be beat her so easily. The only person Crooked Hillary does not want to run against is Donald Trump. Trump v. Clinton will be the biggest voter turnout in the history of this country."

Trump is the second candidate to appear in Poughkeepsie. Sen. Bernie Sanders campaigned at Marist College Tuesday while Chelsea Clinton was in the Town of Poughkeepsie at a Civil Service Employee union's office Sunday.

Earlier in the day, Trump visited his alma mater, the New York Military Academy in Cornwall.

Cornwall GOP Chairwoman Jeanne LaBarge arranged the meeting.

New York Military Academy is a private boarding school about 60 miles north of Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan and one of the oldest military schools in the nation.

Trump, who owns an estate in Bedford, also owns Trump National Golf Club Hudson Valley in Stormville and Trump National Westchester in Briarcliff Manor. The Trump name also adorns Trump Tower at City Center in White Plains, Trump Plaza in New Rochelle, Trump Park Residences in Yorktown and the Donald J. Trump State Park on the Westchester/Putnam border.
