Cuomo Sets Up Task Force To Investigate Nail Salons

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo will set up a task force aimed at investigating the poor working conditions in New York-area nail salons in response to a New York Times investigation.

Cuomo said the task force will investigate salons one-by-one to see if employees are being paid proper wages on time. The task force will also have to power to force employers to pay employees any back wages. Any salons that fail to do so can be shut down.

New rules that salons must follow to protect its manicurists from the potentially dangerous chemicals in nail products have also been instituted, effective immediately.
