Astorino recently asked the Board of Legislators to approve the bonding for $1.4 million of capital projects that would fund "important upgrades to existing recreation facilities across the county," according to a press release. That would include $340,000 for a "new nature center and infrastructure improvements" at Cranberry Lake Preserve, according to the release.
“Our parks are a vital part of the fabric of our county,” said Astorino in the release. “Each of these projects will help ensure that Westchester families can continue to enjoy these public treasures for many years to come.”
Cranberry Lake Preserve serves more than 11,000 visitors annually and provides outdoor programs for more than 40 school and scout groups, according to the release.
"The new nature center will better serve visitors and provide space for educational programs," representatives with Astorino's office said in the release. "The project includes a new building to be designed with green technology, which will contain an activities room, office, utility room, restroom, as well as outdoor classroom space and new communications/data line."
The bond acts, which cover design work, also include $400,000 to expand the parking lot at Wilson's Woods Park in Mount Vernon and $650,000 for a new pathway on the Bronx River Reservation in Yonkers, according to the release.
