Armonk Residents Attempt Final Push Against CVS

ARMONK, N.Y. – As CVS prepares to move in to its Armonk location, the Concerned Citizens of Armonk are preparing a Hail Mary effort to delay the project.

Jeff Baker, an attorney for the group, attempted to push back the public hearing on the special use permit for the chain pharmacy at last week’s North Castle Town Board meeting.

“The Town Board has no way of knowing at this point whether or not the Planning Board is going to give this project a positive declaration,” Baker said.

The Town Board refuted Baker’s request and scheduled the public hearing for its next meeting, which is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. July 25, passing the resolution with a 3-2 vote. Town Board members Michael Schiliro and Stephen D’Angelo voted against scheduling the public hearing on that date, requesting there be more time following the Planning Board’s meeting.

The Planning Board is scheduled to give its approval for the CVS project at its next meeting, July 23. Legal counsel for the town advised the board that Planning Board approval is not needed to open the hearing but is needed to close it and give final approval.

Janet Giris, an attorney representing CVS, also was at the board meeting. Giris made a brief presentation to the board on some of the updates to the CVS project since it originally was presented, which includes multiple exterior changes.

“We've been working extensively with the Planning Board and Architectural Review Board,” Giris said. “We think this will be a big improvement to the location. It’s certainly a big aesthetic improvement to a shopping center that’s been a part of this community for almost 50 years now.”

The Concerned Citizens of Armonk Group is led by President Charlene Jacobi, who also is the owner of Town Center Pharmacy in Armonk.
