Westchester Man Sentenced In Shotgun Shooting Of His Wife

CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. -- Mario Vallorosi, a 78-year-old Cortlandt Manor resident, was sentenced Wednesday to 3.5 years in prison for shooting his 74-year-old wife.

Vallorosi pleaded guilty to attempted assault in the first degree, a Class C violent felony in August, admitting to shooting his wife at close range with a shotgun in their home on Udell Court back in June 2013.

Their adult son, who was also in the house at the time of the shooting, heard a noise and after investigating the noise and found his mother lying on a sofa in an upstairs computer room and called police, according to the Westchester County District Attorney's office.

State Police responded, gained access to and secured the house. The victim was removed to Westchester Medical Center with severe injuries to her abdomen and chest and Vallorosi was arrested at the scene by New York State Police, according to the Westchester County District Attorney's office. 

Vallorosi was sentenced to five years of post-release supervision. Assistant District Attorney Laura Murphy of the Superior Court Trial prosecuted the case.
