Following a lengthy investigation conducted by Investigator David Ruderfer, it was determined that the two caused more than $29,000 worth of damage to approximately 43 school buses that resulted in the Somers Central School District cancelling classes on Jan. 4. The students slashed bus tires, shattered bus windows and discharged fire extinguishers, police said.
Jonas M. Moseby, 18, of Somers, was charged on Tuesday with criminal mischief in the second Degree, a Class D felony. Moseby was arraigned before the Town of North Salem Justice Court and released after posting $10,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Somers Court on June 27.
Another 18-year-old whose name has not been released was charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree, a Class A misdemeanor. That student was issued an appearance ticket directing him to appear in the Town of Somers Justice Court at a later date and time.
The New York State Police were assisted by the Somers Police Department and the Westchester County Police School Resource Officer assigned to the Somers Central School District.
