WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - Detectives are investigating an armed robbery in which three suspects allegedly accosted a Mattress Firm employee and stole nearly $4,000.
Shortly before 8 p.m. on Monday night, officers were dispatched to Mattress Firm on Central Avenue in Yonkers, where there were reports of a robbery, Sgt. Dean Politopoulos of the Yonkers PD said on Tuesday. Upon arrival, police spoke with the 24-year-old victim, who is an employee of the business.
Politopoulos said that the victim told police that after he finished helping a customer, he was accosted by three unidentified black men, who pushed a hard object into his back, which may have been a handgun. The suspects then searched their victim and removed approximately $4,000 in cash and personal property.
The employee suffered a minor contusion to his forehead after being attacked, striking his head on a building support pole. The suspects then fled on foot in an unknown direction.
According to Politopoulos, patrol officers proceeded to conduct a canvas of the area while detectives from the Major Case and Crime Scene Units investigated at the scene, interviewed the victim and surveyed surveillance video.
The three suspects were described as:
- A black male, approximately 25-years-old with dark skin, 6-foot tall weighing 200 pounds with a large bushy beard. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt;
- A black male, approximately 18-years-old with medium complexion, 5-foot, 7-inches tall weighing approximately 140 pounds. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with a POLO insignia on the left breast;
- A black male with medium complexion who was approximately 6-feet, 150 pounds. His age could not be determined, but he had an unknown tattoo on his left hand and was also wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.
