Devon R. Beaufort, 27, was pulled over at approximately 3:30 a.m. after police received a report of a wrong-way driver on the Taconic in Mount Pleasant.
Troopers searching for the offending vehicle subsequently located it traveling southbound in the northbound lanes, police said.
Troopers stopped the vehicle, which was operated by Beaufort, without incident, according to police.
An investigation revealed that the defendant was intoxicated at the time of the traffic stop, police said.
Beaufort was issued traffic tickets directing him to appear before the Town of Mount Pleasant Court on May 5.
