During the crackdown state police targeted impaired and distracted driving, speeding, move-over violations and those not buckled up.
Of the tickets issued, 18,660 were for speeding, 2,522 for child-restraint and seat belt violations, 556 move-over tickets and 1,613 for distracted driving.
Troopers charged 769 people with driving while intoxicated during the crackdown enforcement. Troopers conducted sobriety checkpoints, and more than 21,000 vehicles passed though. Seventy-two of the motorists stopped were charged with DWI.
During the Labor Day weekend from Sept. 4-7, state police issued more than 10,000 tickets. Below is a sample of the total tickets written.
Speed: 4,349.
Seat belt: 422.
Move-over law: 133.
Distracted driver: 312.
Troopers arrested 219 people for DWI during the holiday period.
