TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- A female Tarrytown police officer is on the mend after an altercation with a knife-wielding Yonkers teen at the McDonald's in Tarrytown Monday night.

The 16-year-old was charged with menacing a police officer (a felony), assault in the second degree (a felony), resisting arrest (a misdemeanor) and criminal possession of a weapon (a misdemeanor), according to Lt. John Barbalet.

Officers arrived at the McDonald's after reports of an altercation between 30 people. While police were separating everyone, the 16-year old pulled out a large kitchen knife and threatened the officer and another individual, according to Lt. Barbalet.

The officer ordered the teen to drop the knife. When he did not, the officer attempted to arrest the teen and she sustained injuries to her wrist, police said. The teenager ran off, where he was apprehended 20 minutes later in Sleepy Hollow by Sleepy Hollow police, according to Barbalet.

The teenager was sent to Westchester County Jail and is being held on $10,000 bail. The officer is currently out of work and being evaluated by doctors before she returns to the force, according to Barbalet.

Tarrytown Police were assisted by Greenburgh Police and the Westchester County Department of Public Safety.
