The results will be determined in six to eight weeks, a spokesman said, likely awaiting the results of toxicology testing.
Jose Diaz, a 51-year-old who lived in Harrison and worked in Port Chester, was pulled from the waters of Stamford Harbor early Sunday after about an hour of searching, Stamford Fire Capt. Philip Hayes said in a statement. Diaz was pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital.
Diaz had gone missing from a 38-foot cabin cruiser, Hayes said. Others on the boat noticed he was missing as they approached the docks in Stamford Harbor, Hayes said. They had traveled from Westchester.
Stamford fire, police, and EMS were dispatched to search the water at 11:25 p.m. Saturday, Hayes said, with help from the U.S. Coast Guard, Greenwich Police, and Darien Police.
The crew on the Stamford Fire Department’s Engine 1 noticed a reflective object, which turned out to be Diaz's shoe, in the water off the public dock behind John Boccuzzi Park off Southfield Avenue, Hayes said.
The Stamford fire boat went to the location and found Diaz at 12:38 a.m. Sunday, Hayes said. He was pulled from the water and the crew began resuscitative efforts, he said.
Diaz was transported by Stamford EMS to Stamford Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Calling hours will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at George T. Davis Funeral Home at 16 Shea Place in New Rochelle. Burial will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery at 215 North St. in Rye.
Diaz, who worked at a scrap metal yard, is survived by three daughters; three grandchildren; and his ex-wife.
