A grandchild and former daughter-in-law of Giannone live in Buchanan in Westchester, according to a News 12 report.

Giannone was reportedly shot many times in her driveway as she was getting into her car Saturday by Patrick Sorrentino, former Newburgh deputy police chief who then walked away and killed himself with a gun, Daily Voice reported on Saturday.

The pair reportedly were in a romantic relationship for over a year until August when it ended.

“We are all saddened by the loss of Marie, who was a hard-working and well-liked employee," Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus said in a press release. "Marie was dedicated to serving residents and will be greatly missed by all. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Marie’s family and friends."

“We are all grieving the loss of Marie. She was a wonderful woman who was adored by her co-workers and the public she served. Marie will be remembered lovingly by her family, friends and co-workers," County Clerk Annie Rabbitt said.

Rabbitt advises the public that the County Clerk’s office will remain open, but with limited services during this difficult time. She asked for patience as her staff deals with the loss of Giannone.
