Officers from the Scarsdale Police Department were dispatched to Memorial Park at Boniface Circle shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, where there was a report of a motorist who hopped the curb and struck the bench, dislodging a nameplate.

Police said that the driver, a Fountain Lane resident, stated that he was parked on Boniface Circle and his BMW shifted from park into drive and accelerated on its own, crashing through the bushes into Memorial Park, damaging a park bench and garbage can.

No injuries were reported in the incident, though a metal nameplate was dislodged from the bench. The cost of potential repairs to the garbage can and bench were not disclosed.
