A man, believed to be between the ages of 27 and 35 was found on April 2, 1985, in a wooded area near Route 301 in Philipstown, near Canopus Lake and the Appalachian Trail, police said.
According to police, the man - who has not been identified in 33 years - was white, believed to have been 5-foot-10 with brown hair. Dental records and DNA have not yet led to a positive identification, though forensic facial reconstruction and a sketch have been made available to show what the man may have looked like before his death.
Police said the John Doe was found with no identifying paperwork, and only a few belongings on his person at the time of the discovery of his body.
Investigators from the State Police in Wappinger continue to ask for the public’s assistance to identify this man and help solve the circumstances surrounding his death.
