ARMONK, N.Y. A Fourth of July fire at a mansion at 12 Hallock Place in Armonk was likely caused by a lightning strike, according to Armonk Fire Department Chief Luci Labriola-Cuffe.
Were still waiting on confirmation from the county that lightning strikes were in the area, Labriola-Cuffe said. But foul play and accidental causes have been ruled out.
The fire began at the gated-driveway home shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday night. Labriola-Cuffe said it took until around 3:30 a.m. for it to be under control and that parts of the house were still burning at around 11 a.m. Thursday morning. The chief said 12 fire departments from surrounding towns and villages responded.
One person was home when the fire began and escaped without injuries. The homeowners cat was saved from the fire. Labriola-Cuffe said the pet was in the fire for 2½ hours before being rescued.
The cost of damages to the home have not been determined. According to Zillow.com, the estimated value for 12 Hallock Place is $2.1 million. It was purchased in 2001 for $2.95 million. The house sits on two acres.
