30 Charged With DWI, 364 For Speeding In Hudson Valley July 4th Detail

Troopers from the New York State Police issued nearly 500 tickets to motorists in the Hudson Valley during its annual statewide STOP-DWI enforcement campaign during the Fourth of July holiday.

During the 96-hour campaign, troopers and local law enforcement targeted speeding and aggressive drivers in an attempt to curtail impaired motorists during the holiday.

Thirty drivers were charged with driving while intoxicated and troopers investigated 75 motor vehicle collisions, which resulted in a total of 25 injuries.

In total, police issued 364 tickets for speeding, another 75 for seatbelt violations, 24 motorists were cited for distracted driving and 25 were ticketed for failing to obey New York’s “move over” law.

Statewide, a total of 10,435 tickets were issued between Saturday, July 1 and midnight on Tuesday. Nearly 250 people were charged with DWI. Police said they investigated numerous crashes, which resulted in 248 people being injured and three fatalities.

A year ago, during the same enforcement campaign, state police issued 496 speeding tickets, 13 distracted driving tickets, 38 seatbelt violations and 30 more for violating the move over law.
