ARMONK, N.Y. Christina Williams Koegel of Armonk died July 22 at her home. She was 90.
Born Nov. 18, 1921, she was the youngest of four daughters born to Edgar I. Williams and Hulda Gustafva Olson Williams. She was raised in Rutherford, N.J.
Williams graduated from Smith College in 1943. While at Smith, she traveled from Northampton, Mass. to Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. on a traditional "Mountain Day." There, she met her future husband, James Erwin Koegel.
After college, Koegel and her husband-to-be headed to New York City separately. She worked at Gibbs & Cox Ship Architects, while he worked as an attorney at Dwight, Harris, Koegel and Caskey. After an invitation to play bridge at the home of Jim's parents, their friendship rekindled.
They married Sept. 20, 1946, in the chapel of St. Bartholomew's Church. Together, they had three children. In 1954, Koegel was diagnosed with polio. Though a cure was announced that year, she managed to fight the disease on her own.
Aided by the care of her daughter, Sarah, Koegel was able to serve on the board and executive committee of Northern Westchester Hospital. She also was an active member on the board of VNA of Hudson Valley for many years.
She is survived by two daughters, Christina Granrud, of Kalispell, Mon.,and Sarah Nilsson Koegel, of Armonk; a son, James Arnold (May) Koegel, of Bedford; and two grandchildren. Her husband, Jim, predeceased her three years ago.
A private service will be held at Amawalk Cemetery.
