Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino released a statement Thursday commending Liberty Lines Transit, Inc. and the Transit Workers Union Local 100 for coming to an agreement on a new, tentative four-year contract.
"Through good-faith bargaining, an agreement that protects the interests of both sides has been reached," Astorino said. "Most important from the county's standpoint, the agreement will provide uninterrupted service for the next four years to the more than 30 million passengers who ride the Bee-Line buses annually."
"I want to thank management and the union's negotiating committee for working through the issues in a way that protected the interests of the public," Astorino added.
The deal will become official once it is ratified by the union.
Along with Astorinos statement, details of the tentative agreement also were released. Bus drivers and mechanics will receive salary increases of 1.5 percent and 2.5 percent during the first two years of their contract and then 3 percent for each of the final two years.
In order to counterbalance those costs, employees will increase their health care contributions from the current 3.5 percent on a sliding scale over the four years of the contract, the county government website said. In addition, management and labor will both increase their weekly contributions to the companys pension plan, according to the website.
Liberty Lines president Jerry DAmore said the agreement is a result of concessions on the part of both management and employees. We are very pleased that we have come to terms without a strike and any inconvenience to our loyal passengers.
