In the latest forecast Sunday night, Northern Westchester should receive just a dust or no snow at all while Central and Southern Westchester should get no more than 1 or 2 inches, or just a dusting. No advisories or warnings have been put in effect for Westchester by the National Weather Service.
Earlier in the week, meteorologists were predicting another massive snowstorm would touch down in Westchester, dumping more than a foot of powder in the area. Unexpectedly, the storm cell tracked further south, with the bulk of snow hitting Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
In Eastchester, Paul McDonald, still weary of the forecast, insisted on breaking down a mound of ice that had built up outside of his home, “just in case.”
“With the way this winter has gone, I’m not taking any chances. It’s been brutal so far,” he said. “I’d rather spend a half hour out here while it’s moderately warm than fall all over the place when it snows again.”
While homeowners are celebrating the sight of their lawns for the first time in weeks, business owners are similarly happy as the accumulated snow and ice melts away from sidewalks and storefronts, allowing for safer parking and shopping.
“Ice and snow mean a lot of extra work. You have to shovel and ice and usually it’s slower,” Sanju Kanam, who owns several beverage dispensaries in the county, said on Sunday afternoon. “This one sounded bad, but so far, it’s just been really grey.”
As of Sunday afternoon, forecasts called for brief dusting at night, with just a 50-percent chance of snow on Monday morning, with the sun coming out in the afternoon.
Despite the cheery forecast, Con Edison employees were hard at work in New Rochelle, working on a damaged line while there was no snow on the ground to impede them.
“We can’t do our jobs to the best of our abilities when there’s snow and ice everywhere, so we need to get it done when we can,” one member of the crew said. “We’re sick of winter like everyone else.”
