Westchester to Honor 9/11 with Candlelit Ceremony

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Westchester will honor the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11 with a candlelit remembrance ceremony at "The Rising" memorial in Kensico Plaza.

The ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 11 will begin at 6 p.m., which allows residents to participate in multiple ceremonies throughout the region.

The county's 9/11 tribute will begin on Friday, Sept. 9 with a volunteer expo at the County Center in White Plains from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Westchester will join communities across the country in transforming 9/11 into a national service day by matching residents up with local volunteering opportunities and providing people with a chance to donate blood.

About 100 nonprofit agencies from across the county will participate in the "Serve and Learn: Westchester Remembers 9/11" event organized by the Volunteer Center of the local United Way.
