The certification was granted following the Special Response Team’s demonstration that it was in compliance with 15 critical standards that cover team capabilities and operations, training, equipment and administration, a press release from the county said.

“Training and equipping a highly skilled police tactical team is an essential part of our commitment to keeping the people of Westchester safe,” County Executive Rob Astorino said. “The SRT is prepared to respond to the most dangerous and difficult incidents and I congratulate its members on being the first to achieve this important certification.”

Public Safety Commissioner George N. Longworth said that the SRT is deployed to assist both county police and local police in a broad range of circumstances.

“We count on our Special Response Team to handle some of the most high-risk incidents that occur in Westchester, from leading raids on locations where illegal narcotics are being sold to executing arrest warrants of armed and dangerous criminals,” Longworth said.
