Westchester Heads to Gym for New Year's Resolution

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Lymphoma cancer survivor Gregorio Tellez took to Planet Fitness in New Roc City Monday to keep up on his New Year's resolution of becoming fit again.

“My knees got hurt and I’m trying to improve them,” said Tellez.

Tellez, a New Rochelle resident, is looking for local races to run such as 10Ks as he re-gains his strength from the disease. Tellez was one of many throughout Westchester County to begin new exercise regimens for the New Year.

While Planet Fitness saw a few signups as of early Monday afternoon, New York Sports Club on the second floor of Trump Plaza saw several new signups in addition to those continuing their memberships.

Existing members were increasing the number of times they come to the club, while new members acted on their resolutions of making a commitment to stay in shape, said manager Matt Calchera.

“We’ve definitely been packed,” said Calchera.

Larchmont resident and recent Marquette University graduate Chris Carlucci, who plays in a hockey league at Mamaroneck's Hommocks Park Ice Rink, came with friend Andrew Senter, who was visiting from San Francisco.

“I’m trying to lose five to 10 pounds at the least," he said.
