Westchester Has Minnows Available To Fight West Nile Virus

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – Westchester County officials have 200 pounds of free minnows available for ornamental pond owners to try to combat the West Nile virus.

Such ponds can become breeding sites for mosquitoes, which carry the serious and sometimes-fatal West Nile virus, according to a press release from the county Health Department.

Residents who want to use the fathead minnows to help battle West Nile are asked to bring a bucket to Loop Road, building two, at the Westchester County airport.

The distribution days and times next week will be as follows.

Thursday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
Friday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
Saturday, May 9, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
