In an email sent out to all municipalities, the county expressed concern with the increasingly large quantities of co-mingled recyclables that are being collected at the curbs and delivered to the county Material Recovery Facility in plastic bags.
The email urges the towns to remind residents plastic bags, "are not acceptable with our curbside recyclables, for they create processing problems, clog our sorting equipment and seriously degrade the market value of the material we sell."
Proper recycling procedure is to set out recyclables - such as glass, plastics and metals - loose in a container.
